American Sign Language

Infusing Visual Language Into Your Curriculum

American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual gesture language that incorporates physical movement and actions as well as facial expressions. Learning ASL is a highly engaging and fun activity for both children and adults alike. This presentation will help participants learn more about ASL and the benefits of using it in the classroom.

Signing can be used to enhance the educational environment not only for students but for teachers as well. When children are able to clearly communicate their wants and needs, adults are better able to respond. The child and the adult are less frustrated because communication is clear and there is a sense of empowerment that the child can get his or her needs met and that the adult knows how to respond.

In this fun and informative class you will learn signs and practice them in context so that you leave ready to integrate signing into your classroom routine.
